Northern California New Year's Fun Sail at Alameda, CaJanuary 10
Story
The weather gods graced us with light wind, clear skys and temps in the high 60s. 4 Windmills showed up to go sailing while 2 additional skippers joined the fleet at the marina, sans boats. There was a bit of boat/crew swapping, the details of which will remain a secret. Dave Neilsen (Quizotic #5150), Scott Rovenpera (Feilx #3481), Tony Mindling (Sharlet #3841), and Darrell Sorensen (Second Wind #821) brought their boats. We all admired Darrell's beautiful restoration of Second Wind. Armand Petersen has #3066 under restoration. He sailed with Tony and they realized that Tony had owned #3066 back in 1977. Jenny and Jessica Rovenpera were boat hopping, honing their already stellar crewing skills. Alan & Arlene Taylor (Heartbeat #2951) were unable to sail, but drove over to the marina for an afternoon of sailor talk.
With 6 active boats in the N.Cal fleet, 2009 should be a very good year for West Coast Windmills.

You'll find a 3-minute video of our outing here:
