After SPYC cancelled their racing because there were not enough boats pre-registered, Lisa sent out an invitation to the local Windmill fleet - Come on over to Bradenton Yacht Club/Bishop Sailing Center and let's hold our own event! Five Windmills answered the call. Jabbo from the Sailing Center manned the Start boat and Stephanie (with Gizmo the Sailor Pup sniffing out the wind) set the marks. Colin suggested a course that the Contenders use. Windward mark, Reach mark, Jybe to close reach and round the starting pin to Starboard, Leward mark from there, then beat to finish. Very cool course that hits every point of sail and stresses boat handling. We ran 5 races averaging 10 minutes each. The top four finished seconds apart in every race with many finishes determined by inches. Shout out to Mike and Donna Sue who managed quite well for the first time in a Windmill in gusty 10-15+ winds. After all the boats were de-rigged and on trailers, the group gathered in the sailing center for socializing, food and beverages. Thanks again to Lisa for providing the venue. |
