Windmill Southerns at Boca Ciega Yacht Club | November 10 - 11 |
Story |
Good Day to All,
Ralph and I wanted to Thank all the Southern Windmill Sailors for a Fantastic Regatta at Boca Ciega Yacht Club. The weather couldn't have been better, a warm 80 degree clear blue sky weekend. Island green sparkling water with dolphins leaping high into the air and playing all around us as we raced. The Southerns was a wonderful regatta. Boca Ciega has warm and welcoming members who engaged a top notch Race Committee. The modified Olympic course and quick starts allowed us to get 6 races on Saturday and another 2 races on Sunday. Wind for the weekend was 10 to 14 kts on Saturday and a solid 15 kts with gust to 18 kts with a light chop. Saturday was a "You should have been here Day." Six out of the Nine boat fleet crossed the finish line ahead of Ethan Bixby. Ethan who was ahead of everyone miscalculated and sailed the wrong course, allowing the rest of us to mark that day in our calendar for all time. After the first race we only saw the back of Ethan for the rest of the regatta. The rest of the fleet had tight racing with only seconds between each finisher. It was a pleasure to meet Ken Friedman and Rich Riddle. They are the new Windmill owners of #3958 and had a great 1st race coming in 4th place. Lisa Fath and Caroline Denton also had a remarkable 1st race sailing masterfully to bet Ethan as he returned back to the finish line. The Sea Scout boat that Allison Martin and Alex Brown sailed perserverred through some wet mistakes but kept on going and stayed the course. They were proud of receiving the Silver award for "Tough Luck". A great BBQ dinner and drinks on Saturday night with another BBQ lunch and frozen drinks was devoured with relish on Sunday. Ethan Bixby new hull from Mark Johannsen arrived at the club. What a beautiful piece of craftmanship. If your in the market for a new hull to transfer you gear over, I highly recommend our new builder. Safe Journeys to All, Sandy and Ralph Sponar Longtail #3524 |
