Good Day to All,
Ralph and I wanted to thank all the people involved with the Sarasota Sailing Community One Design Regatta. We had a wonderful time and it is also another one to add to your "To Do List". Fantastic 85 degree warm weather and a great place to sail on blue green water. Dolphins, fish and water birds were on the race course and manatees were seen from the launching beach. Colins and Nicky's tent palace was envied by many and the shaddy comfortable pavillion and roomy Club house, bar, bath and shower rooms made everyone feel welcomed. Beautiful sunsets glowing off the Sarasota Skyline and boats made for a picture perfect weekend.
The first day of racing had all the sailboats waiting for the wind to fill in. Which gave everyone in other boats like the Albacores, Day Sailers and Flying Scotts a chance to check our boats out and ask questions. Once the wind filled in 5 to 12 knots we were the first class to start and lapped the other classes showing the amazing speed of the Windmill. Three windward leeward races were completed with lead changes on each leg.
A delightful spicy shrimp, potatoes and corn boil was very filling with may trips to the club bar for beverages to cool down the spice. Sunday racing started at 1000 for another 3 races. Wind stayed somewhat steady from the East at 3 to 8 knots with a occasional 12 knot hurry and get up on the rail and hike puff.
Lots of laughs and fun was had by all. Ralph and I have had a great time sailing these last 2 weekends. Traveling to new clubs and meeting new people from around the world who become instant friends is what sailing is all about. A Big Thank you to Colin, Nicky, Lon and Meg. Its hard work setting up regattas and we greatly appreciate all that you did to make it happen. Hopefully next year there will be 20 or more Windmills at these events. Lets make it happen and you will be happy you took the time to enjoy the sun, sailing and good friends.
