Vang - You will need two blocks. A Harken #084 double block and a single becket block, a Nicro Fico (NF-462) or a Harken #024. Lead the control line to a clam cleat on the daggerboard well. Fasten one end to the boom with a boom bail or eye strap, about 27" from the aft face of the mast. Attach the other end, as low as possible to the mast or the mast step. Make sure the line does not bind on the thwart. See my crude drawing of this system in Figure 1.
A fancy way is to double lead it to both decks, so it can be easily adjusted while hiked out. Add $100 in parts to do this and based on my personal experience it is not worth it.
On wood masts, attach the lower end of the vang to a metal strap or a boom bail bolted through the mast or to a four hole eye strap on the keel doubler.
On aluminum masts, vangs may be attached with two variations. 1) An eye strap in the sail rope groove, backed with sail track, (not washers), a lot of force will be placed on this fitting. 2) Attached to the mast step with a twist shackle.
One end of the vang should disconnect readily for unrigging. I use an inexpensive ($1) swivel shackle, intended to be used to clip a ski rope to a power boat. Since it has a built in swivel it keeps the vang lines from binding on each other and functions as a $15 snap shackle.
Two vangs systems are illustrated below. Figure 1 illustrates the one described above. Figure 7 uses a lever for purchase.

(1) There are many ways to attach the vang to the boom. Not illustrated, because it requires swaging, is using a keyhole plate on the boom (RL-350-A-11). The keyhole plate is mounted to the boom. The end of the wire is swaged with a ball that fits into the keyhole. Very slick, it disconnects quickly and eliminates the need for the eye strap, plus one nicropress and thimble as illustrated in Vang System II.
Vang System (Same as above, except it provides for inline cleating, preferred by some sailors) Substitute for NF-462, Cleating Becket Fiddle Block,NF-765 and eliminate the aluminum clam cleat.
